Huffs In The News - PoliticalUK Students Kicking Off Big Style
Posted by admin on Tuesday, November 09 @ 11:00:00 GMT (499 reads)
Students in the UK were today protesting against proposed increases in tutition fees for universities and the scrapping of the Education Maintenance allowance for 16 to 18 years old. Although is was mainly a peaceful protest there was also incidents of rioting. The main centre of which was the Conservative party headquarters.

With windows being smashed and protestors on the roof and police struggling to control the protestors this received the most amount of publicity. The student unions and other people were quick to criticise such violence and felt it took away focus from the vast majority peacefully protesting. However some would argue that the protest would not have received such large scale coverage on 24 hour news channels had it not had this element. This is not to say these actions is correct but perhaps more an indication of the attitude of the media needing drama rather than substance.
